   video production

Designed and built by Malcolm House for Atlas Technical Solutions, the video facility is centered around six Canon XL-H1 cameras, chosen for their outstanding uncompressed high def images.  Typically Live At The Basement (LATB) productions use six cameras - five manned and one fixed.  The uncompressed HD-1080i-50 output of each camera is linked via 10 x HDSDI cables to the LATB control room.

Video control is equipped with a Panasonic AV-HS3000 HDSHI vision mixer, 5 x BT-LH2700WE 17" Panasonic HD monitors, 6 Marshall 7" preview monitors, one Panasonic BT-LH2600W HD monitor, and two Final Cut Pro  Servers with AJA Kona Cards to capture uncompressed HD-1080i-50 images with timecode and reference.  Output from the vision mixer is routed to both FC servers, main and back-up.  In addition, the output of each camera is recored for future editing, using HDV tapes in cameras.

The video system includes; 16 way HD video router, Magnum ShootView HD SPG,ASL communications system to all crew, ShootView HD video distribution amp, Z Systems 16 way digital audio router and a precision HD waveform monitor.  FCP servers include 15 terabytes of storage for capture and editing.  All finished shows are backed-up to terabyte mirrored drvies for long term storage.  Other back-up options include Sony HDCAM or HDCAM-SR formats.

Return feeds to The Basement include timecode, high definition tri-synch video reference, tally-light control, comms and HDSD video return for the lighting director.  Crewing for a LATB production consists of a producer, director/vision mixer, audio engineer/ producer for  music mix, lighting director, two technical assistants and a production assistant.  For maximum flexibility, the club has ten camera patch points, covering two handheld and three mounted cameras on tripods or dollies for tracking shots.
